Inner Child Healing

An encounter with yourself, with your story and with the love you deserve to receive

Have you ever wondered why, even though you are an adult now, some situations still hurt as if you were once again that little boy or girl who needed a hug, protection or a loving word?

Maybe today you are a strong, responsible and independent person. Maybe you have learned to handle everything, to take care of others and to keep going even when, inside, you feel sadness, fear, loneliness or an emptiness you can't explain.

But what happens when those emotions are rooted in experiences we lived through in our childhood?

At Despertando Aquí y Ahora, I invite you to set out on a journey inward to recognize your story, listen to your emotions and reconnect with that little boy or girl who is still a part of you.

Inner child healing is a process of self-knowledge, compassion and emotional reconnection. It isn't about erasing the past or changing what happened, but about understanding how some experiences may have shaped the way we feel, the way we relate to others and the way we see our own worth.

Where does the inner child wound begin?

Childhood is a fundamental stage of our emotional development. During those early years we learn, through our experiences and our relationships with the people who care for us, whether the world feels safe, whether we can express what we feel and whether our needs deserve to be heard.

However, not every childhood is full of safety, understanding and affection.

Some children grow up in homes marked by abandonment, violence, shouting, humiliation, addiction, a family member's chronic illness or the emotional absence of their parents. Others go through separations, losses, rejection, or the feeling that they have to behave and not cause any trouble in order to be loved.

There are also children who never suffered physical violence, but learned to hide their sadness because no one taught them how to express their emotions.

Every story is different. Not everyone who goes through these experiences develops the same wounds, but some people may learn to protect themselves emotionally in ways that, over time, stop being useful to them.

A boy who had to be strong too soon can become an adult who doesn't know how to ask for help. A girl who was afraid of being abandoned can grow up trying to please everyone so that no one leaves her. Someone who was rejected or constantly criticized may come to doubt their own worth, even when others recognize their qualities.

Sometimes, what we learned in order to protect ourselves as children becomes a barrier that keeps us from living our adult life with emotional freedom.

How can a childhood wound show up in adult life?

Perhaps you'll recognize yourself in some of these experiences:

  • Fear of abandonment: feeling distress when someone pulls away, or believing that the people you love will end up leaving.
  • Need for approval: constantly trying to please others, even when it means forgetting about yourself.
  • Difficulty setting boundaries: saying yes when you want to say no, for fear of disappointing someone or losing their affection.
  • Feeling you're not enough: believing you have to prove your worth to deserve love, attention or recognition.
  • Difficulty trusting: staying on the defensive because, at some point, opening your heart meant getting hurt.
  • Relationships that repeat painful patterns: finding yourself again and again in bonds where you don't feel heard, respected or valued.
  • Emotional disconnection: having grown so used to keeping your feelings to yourself that it's hard to identify your own needs.

Recognizing these experiences doesn't mean blaming our parents or holding our family responsible for everything we live today. It means allowing ourselves to look at our story honestly, understand what we learned and discover what we can begin to transform.

Your story is part of you, but it doesn't have to define every decision you make from here on.

Why is it important to heal our inner child?

Because we can't change what we lived through, but we can learn to relate in a different way to our memories, our emotions and our needs.

Healing our inner child means beginning to offer yourself today some of what you may have needed back then: understanding, emotional safety, patience, respect, self-love and permission to express what you feel.

It is learning to listen to yourself without judging, to recognize your limits, to stop demanding perfection of yourself and to understand that you don't need to earn the right to be loved.

This process can help you recognize patterns, strengthen your self-esteem, build more conscious relationships and respond differently to situations that used to bring up pain or fear.

It isn't about becoming someone else. It's about getting to know yourself more deeply, finding your voice again and learning to treat yourself with the tenderness you deserve.

How do we work on Inner Child Healing at Despertando Aquí y Ahora?

My work with you begins with a space of listening, respect and connection. Every person has a different story, which is why the process adapts to each person's needs, their pace and what they feel ready to explore.

Preparing and connecting inward

We begin by creating a space of calm through a guided meditation, conscious breathing and attention to your emotions. The purpose is to help you connect with yourself and notice what you are feeling in the present.

A symbolic encounter with your inner child

Through a guided visualization, I invite you to imagine meeting your younger self, always respecting your limits and your emotional readiness. A memory may come up, a sensation, or simply a symbolic image.

In that encounter you can imagine yourself approaching that little boy or girl, listening to what they need to express, and offering them a hug, protection or the loving words you are able to give yourself today.

You don't need to remember everything that happened or relive painful experiences for the exercise to be meaningful.

Recognizing wounds and emotional patterns

Through reflective questions and self-knowledge exercises, we explore which situations stir up certain emotions, what you learned in order to protect yourself, and how those lessons might be influencing your relationships, your decisions and the way you treat yourself.

We don't seek to judge your past, but to understand it with compassion.

Exercises to integrate what you've learned

After each session, you may receive practices to do at home, depending on your needs. These can include writing a letter to your inner child, keeping an emotional journal, practicing conscious affirmations, identifying your needs, recognizing your limits or doing self-care exercises.

They are small steps to carry the reflection into your daily life and begin to build a more loving relationship with yourself.

Reconnecting with yourself and personal commitment

The process continues as you learn to listen to yourself, to acknowledge your emotions without rejecting them and to respond from your present, instead of acting only out of old fears or patterns.

You don't need to do it all at once. Every step counts, and every person has their own pace.

What can you begin to transform?

This path can help you:

  • Better understand your emotional history.
  • Recognize emotional needs you used to find hard to express.
  • Develop a more compassionate relationship with yourself.
  • Identify patterns you want to change.
  • Practice healthier boundaries.
  • Strengthen your self-love and self-confidence.
  • Learn to build more conscious relationships.
  • Give yourself permission to feel, to rest, to ask for help and to begin again.

Every process is unique, and there is no formula that guarantees the same results for everyone. Transformation is built little by little, with awareness, practice and respect for your story.

An invitation to come back to yourself

Perhaps for many years you learned to take care of everyone but yourself. Perhaps you got used to staying quiet, to being strong or to pretending that nothing hurt.

Today you can begin to listen to yourself in a different way.

At Despertando Aquí y Ahora, I walk with you as you open a space to meet yourself, look at your story with compassion and discover that your past doesn't have to determine the way you love yourself, value yourself and build your future.

You don't need to have all the answers to begin. You only need to give yourself permission to take the first step.

Your inner child doesn't need you to change the past. They need you to learn, today, to listen to yourself, care for yourself and treat yourself with love.

Despertando Aquí y Ahora — a space to look inward, reconnect with yourself and open up to a new way of living your story.
